Event » Take a Trip Along the Chitlin' Circuit with TU Jazz Ensemble

Join the City of Thomasville as we celebrate Black History Month with a trip along the Chitlin' Circuit with the Thomas University Jazz Ensemble and Vocalists. During the years before the Civil Rights movement was underway, segregated American cities helped give birth to a touring circuit, the Chitlin' Circuit, that provided employment for hundreds of black musicians and eventually brought about the birth of rock 'n' roll music. Several of the singers on the Chitlin' Circuit stayed in Thomasville at the Imperial Hotel during segregation including the King Perry Band, B.B. King, The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, Earl Bostic, Bells of Joy, Rosetta Tharpe and Marie Knight. Come out and enjoy music that was made popular on the Chitlin' Circuit. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and spend the evening with us at the Park and Amphitheater as we celebrate Black History Month!
